A new hope: jewels Carrie Fisher wore in first Star Wars film re-released for sale

Forty years after her debut as Princess Leia in Star Wars: A New Hope, Carrie Fisher will grace the screen in the role for the final time next month. In memory of the late actress, jewellery the star wore in the original 1977 film will be re-released for sale.

“The Space Silver collection celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first Star Wars movie, which brought Lapponia worldwide recognition, after two pieces from the collection were featured in the movie,” a spokesperson for the jewellery brand said.

"The necklace, Planetoid Valleys, and Darina’s Bracelet, were worn by Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher, in the last scene of the first Star Wars epic, when she awarded medals to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Hans Solo (Harrison Ford). Following the first Star Wars release, the Planetoid Valleys necklace and Darina's Bracelet became Lapponia's most internationally renowned jewellery pieces and Finnish design classics."

Lapponia is selling nine silver galactic-themed pieces of jewellery, designed by Finnish designer Björn Weckström, to celebrate the movie’s anniversary, including Princess Leia’s Planetoid Valleys necklace, which is on sale for €2,255 (£1,988), and her Darina's Bracelet, which can be purchased for €625 (£551).

Fisher’s death from sleep apnea last year stunned Star Wars fans everywhere. The actress was honoured this week with a nomination for a posthumous Grammy in the Best Spoken Word Album category, for the audiobook recording of her candid memoir, The Princess Diarist.
