Auction round-up: Fabulous festive finds

It's somewhat rare to find jewellery with a seven-figure guide price coming up for sale outside of the big London auction houses. Yet such is the pedigree of Birmingham-based auction house Fellows that it has a very important jewel for sale at its Antique & Modern Jewellery auction on 7 December.

This yellow diamond ring is from luxury jeweller Graff Diamonds, considered to be one of the world's best cutters and polishers of yellow diamonds, which get their intense colour from nitrogen atoms. The exquisite ring features a 43.59ct Fancy Intense Yellow radiant-cut VS2 diamond set between two white tapered diamond shoulders, and comes with an estimate value of £900,000-£1.4m.

Other significant pieces in the sale include a French mid-20th-century emerald and diamond geometric bracelet (£22,000-£28,000) and a Lucida-cut diamond single stone ring by Tiffany & Co (£4,000-£6,000).

Also putting together a treasure trove of designer jewellery this month is Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh. At its Jewellery, Silver, Watches & Wine auction on 6 December you'll find a group of lots from British fine jeweller Boodles, including a heart-shaped diamond solitaire ring (£15,000-£20,000) and a diamond-set pendant necklace (£2,000-£3,000). There's also a selection from the more avant-garde jewellery designer Theo Fennell, including a limited-edition fox pendant featuring orange sapphires (£1,000-£1,500) and a black and colourless diamond set "skull" necklace (£800-£1,000).

For those in the market for a bottle of something special this Christmas, there are plenty of wine and whisky auctions coming up in early December, with some fine and rare lots that would make a fantastic gift or could, of course, be imbibed on the big day. On 5 December, Cheffins in Cambridge is holding its Wine Sale, which will feature a 12-bottle lot of Chateau Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 5eme Cru 2003 (£1,000-£1,500) and three bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac 1er Cru 1996 (£800-£1,000), as well as a bottle of The Macallan single malt whisky from 1937 (£2,000-£2,500).

Meanwhile, Brightwells in Leominster is holding an auction of Fine Wine, Vintage Port and Rare Malt Whisky on 6 December. The sale will include more than 200 lots of fine French wines, as well as an impressive selection from the New World. Highlights include, from Bordeaux, eight bottles of Chateau Haut-Brion 1985 (£1,500-£1,900), and from Burgundy, a 12-bottle case of La Tache 1969 from renowned producer Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (£14,000-£18,000).

To round off a Christmas lunch in style why not bid on a bottle of vintage Port? Examples on offer here include 12 bottles of Taylor's 1977 (£600-£800) and four rare bottles of Taylor's 1927 (£800-£1,100 each).
