Auction round up: February's designer finds
Vintage fashion and accessories are big business at auction, as this month's sales can attest
Those in the market for a pre-owned watch or piece of jewellery from an eminent brand will find a plentiful supply across the UK's smaller auction houses this month. Luxury French jewellery house Cartier is always popular at auction, and pieces from its Love collection – designed in 1969 and featuring a distinctive screw motif – often come up for sale.
At its jewellery auction on 6 February, Chiswick Auctions has several pieces for sale from the Love collection, including rings (£800–£1,200) and bangles (£1,200–£3,000). Also going under the hammer is a Cartier Juste un Clou curved nail bangle, which comes with an estimate of £3,000–£5,000, and a pair of diamond-set earrings by Boucheron (£1,800–£2,000). On 13 February, the auction house is holding a watches sale, which will include an 18k gold open face pocket watch from Patek Philippe for Bunde & Upmeyer Co (£2,000–£3,000).
The renowned Swiss watchmaker also features at Gardiner Houlgate's specialist watches sale on 21 February, where a Patek Philippe for Tiffany & Co 18k lever dress pocket watch is estimated to fetch £2,000–£3,000. Other notable lots in the sale include a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona stainless steel and gold men's watch (£5,000–£8,000) and a rare Tudor Oyster Prince Snowflake Submariner men's bracelet watch (£2,000–£4,000) – characterised by a distinct dial with square hour markers and matching hands.

Designer jewellery and watches picks can also be found at Fellows this month, across three separate sales. First up is one of the auction house's regular designer collection auctions, on 12 February, where featured lots include an Asprey Darcy Belgravia handbag in ostrich (£2,500–£3,000) and an Alma PM Epi leather handbag from Louis Vuitton (£660–£860).
The Birmingham-based auction house's antique and modern jewellery sale on 15 February features a Harry Winston Lotus Cluster diamond pendant (£5,000–£7,000) as well as more pieces from Cartier, such as a 1980s diamond and gem-set brooch (£2,500–£3,000). And on 27February, it's holding a watch sale, with a Piaget ladies Dancer bracelet watch (£2,400–£3,000) and a Jaeger-LeCoultre men's rose gold Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau watch (£18,000–£22,000) among the most covetable pieces.
Finally, vintage fashion devotees should head to Kerry Taylor Auctions on 19February, for a sale of antique and vintage fashion and textiles. Highlights include a 1970s Ossie Clark/Celia Birtwell for Radley printed pale green moss crepe dress (£250–£350) and a Vivienne Westwood short Cocotte dress from 2007 (£200–£300), as well as a 1930s bias-cut fully sequined evening gown (£400–£600).
