End of the line: Morgan’s limited-edition Aero GT unveiled
Racing-inspired sports car brings Aero 8 production to a close
After 18 years of production, Morgan is bidding farewell to its Aero 8 with a limited-edition racing-inspired version of the iconic sports car.
The British car maker, which is renowned for using wooden underpinnings for its historic-looking vehicles, announced plans to bring an end to Aero 8 manufacturing last December. However, the company has only just revealed images of the first commemorative Aero GT to leave the production line.
The first model comes in the striking Miami Blue paint scheme, which perfectly highlights the racing heritage of the standard Aero 8. The most significant differences are the Aero GT’s carbon fibre winglets moulded into the front bumper and the rows of air ducts above the front wheel arches.

At the back, the Aero GT boasts a sizeable carbon fibre diffuser derived from the company’s GT3 racing car from the mid-to-late 2000s. The rear wheel arches also come with large air vents, which will likely be used to cool the sports car’s brakes.
Under the bonnet, the Aero GT houses a 4.8-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine sourced from BMW. The engine first appeared in the BMW 7-Series from the late 1990s and is no longer in production at the company’s plant in Munich, so this will be the last Morgan to feature the motor.
Power output remains unchanged from the Aero 8, with 367bhp being sent to the rear axle via a six-speed manual gearbox. This helps the Aero GT sprint from 0-62mph in 4.5sec and on to a top speed of 170mph.
Those who are selected to purchase an Aero GT are invited to a design consultancy session with Morgan’s design chief, Jon Wells. Customers can then choose from a selection of colours and trim levels, as well as add bespoke design elements.
However, the likelihood of you seeing an Aero GT, let alone buying one, are remarkably slim. That’s because only eight examples of the £120,000 car are due to reach production - and they’re already sold out.
