Masked robbers target Beckham mansion: what we know

David and Victoria Beckham have upped security measures at their home in the Cotswolds after a gang of balaclava-wearing raiders scaled the walls in a bid to break in.

The couple’s £6m mansion in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, was targeted last week, according to the Daily Mail.

Police were reportedly called to the property after the family’s security team spotted three suspects on CCTV.

The footage shows the trio propping a ladder against a wall of the converted barn and climbing up to look into a first-floor window, before being chased off.

The masked raiders were also spotted by guests from the nearby Soho Farmhouse members club and hotel, who helped scare away the would-be robbers.

The Beckhams were believed to have been on a flight to Australia at the time, with an insider telling the Daily Mirror that they had “been made aware” following the incident.

“They are obviously shaken by it and hope these guys are caught or warded off from doing this again,” the source said.

Another insider told the Mail: “David hates the fact he has to have such hi-tech and extremely tight security around him.

“He would love to be normal but his number one priority is to protect his wife, children and wider family.”

Now, the Beckhams have “been forced to significantly increase security at the countryside home, where they spend many of their weekends”, adds the paper.

The property “boasts nine bedrooms and there are believed to be plans afoot to add a 60ft croquet lawn, natural swimming pond and orchard”, says the Mirror.
