Drop-top sports car’s roof lowers in just 12 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph
Joining the coupe version in the marque’s latest 911 line-up, launched last November, the Cabriolet model swaps the standard car’s hard-top roof for a retractible soft-top version.
This roof can be raised or lowered in just 12 seconds while driving at speeds of up to 31mph, reports Autocar.

Removing the top can significantly affect the vehicle’s handling, so Porsche has strengthened the car’s engine to maintain chassis rigidity, the magazine adds.
Aside from the folding roof and stiffer engine mounts, the 911 Cabriolet is mechanically identical to the standard coupe.
That means the drop-top will be available in two-wheel drive Carrera S and four-wheel drive Carrera 4S form at launch, with cheaper non-S variants expected to later in the car’s life cycle.
The rear-mounted engine in the Cabriolet is the same 444bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six version found in the coupe version, and is paired with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox, notes Evo. A manual option is expected in the future.

A 0-62mph dash in the rear-wheel convertible takes 3.9 seconds - only 0.2 seconds slower than the coupe. And four-wheel drive Carrera S Cabriolets models can complete the same sprint in 3.6 seconds.
The cabin is also carried over from the coupe, with a pair of customisable digital displays behind the steering wheel to view the vehicle’s instrument cluster and satnav settings.
Orders for the new Cabriolet are open now. CarBuyer reports that prices for the standard Carrera S model kick off at £102,755, rising to £108,063 for the Carrera 4S.
