Just when it seemed to be over, the brutal torture of film critics across the nation is poised to continue with the improbable relaunch of the Saw franchise, which was supposed to have ended with 2010's Saw 3D. "I want to play a game," said a gravelly-voiced member of the creative team behind the franchise, probably. "Instead of coming up with an original idea, let's regurgitate the same gory garbage we've been doing for the last decade." No release date has been set, but anyone who can't wait for the next Saw movie can invent their own: Just imagine someone piercing their noses with a rusty railroad spike, or jumping into a swimming pool full of centipedes, or whatever. 3. Pretty much every animated movie that came out this year has been submitted for an Oscar
Best Animated Feature is arguably the dumbest category at the Academy Awards. Though every other type of film is required to compete with every other type of film, animated films — which are eligible for Best Picture — still inexplicably have a category of their very own. If you think we're being unfair, here are some of the movies that were submitted for contention this year: Free Birds, Planes, and The Smurfs 2, all of which the Academy will actually have to take seriously for a little while. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held next January, for anyone who wants to tune in and see Pixar win the award again. [The Hollywood Reporter]

4. The CW is building a new TV show around a superhero you've probably never heard of
When they run out of shows about teenagers and vampires, The CW needs something to fill its screen time — and between Smallville and Arrow, the network has established a surprisingly strong foothold in the DC Comics universe. With those successes in mind, the network is developing a drama based on everybody's favorite superhero: Hourman, who you probably don't remember as a "brilliant yet troubled pharmaceutical analyst" who can see one hour into the future. But his fatal flaw, apparently, is not being able to see far enough to predict how many people would make fun of the name "Hourman." [Variety]

5. This creepy baby doll would have made Twilight a thousand times better
The story of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 presented unique challenges for the film's creative team, which had to figure out how to make a half-human/half-vampire baby seem plausible. And unfortunately, they did not opt for one ridiculously terrifying option. The Los Angeles Times has unearthed footage of a genuinely horrifying animatronic doll that was considered but eventually discarded in favor of a far less bizarre-looking CGI creation — because why would someone want to see something scary in a movie about vampires and werewolves?
