Miami: New adventures in South Florida cuisine
My Ceviche; The Bazaar; Florida Cookery
“A Technicolor tropical playground,” Miami makes an ideal winter weekend getaway, said TastingTable.com. When in South Beach, catch a bite at one of these spots, three of this year’s “buzziest.”
My Ceviche This tiny South Beach takeout counter offers “buttery” pre-cracked stone-crab claws and a “piquant” ceviche made with fresh-caught fish and yellow chile peppers. Order to go and you can enjoy a picnic on the water at nearby South Pointe Park. 235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, (305) 397-8710
The Bazaar by José Andrés Even if you’ve eaten at the original Los Angeles location, this new outpost is worth a visit for its “imaginative, compelling” interpretations of Miami’s Latin-influenced cuisine. Menu highlights include cuttlefish and coconut rice served in a coconut shell, and honey-glazed codfish-cream wontons. The cocktails are equally inspired: Try the caipirinha—a potion concocted using lime, Brazilian cachaça, and liquid nitrogen. SLS Hotel South Beach, 1701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, (305) 455-2999

Florida Cookery At chef Kris Wessel’s new restaurant, Southern and classic Florida cooking are “interpreted through a riotous tropical lens.” Wessel’s creations include soursop-glazed ribs with green papaya slaw, and oyster or alligator empanadas. “For Sunday brunch, try the pulled duck confit with guava sauce, broiled with Tomme cheese and a duck egg.” James Royal Palm Hotel, 1545 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, (786) 276-0333
