A gun dealer mysteriously sprouts angel wings and begins doing good deeds against his will in this dialogue-free animated feature. “Whimsy and violence have long co-existed” in Bill Plympton’s twisted animations, but “never as disturbingly” as in this 2008 noir, said the Chicago Tribune.

The Conspirator
(Lionsgate, $30)
This Robert Redford–directed drama about a woman on trial for conspiring to kill Abe Lincoln offers ample atmosphere and suspense, said Time. Though Redford tries too hard to connect his story to post-9/11 America, Robin Wright saves the film with a performance of “sullen, fiery dignity.”

If you want to reconnect to how you felt on 9/11, this collection of “terrific” documentaries “will bring you back,” said The Kansas City Star. The set’s “rightful centerpiece” is 102 Minutes That Changed America, which runs amateur footage unfiltered and narration-free.
