In 1944, Nazi SS officer Erich Priebke orchestrated the massacre of hundreds of Italian civilians in Rome. After the war he fled to Argentina, where he lived free for 50 years. This documentary tells the surprising story of how Sam Donaldson and an ABC News crew found him, leading to Priebke’s long-delayed trial for war crimes. This colorful docuseries spotlights the Twetos, a hardy family who run their own airline in remote Unalakleet, Alaska. In this new series, National Geographic follows young wildlife researcher Pat Spain as he emulates his famous uncle, Charles Fort, who investigated strange phenomena. This week takes Spain to British Columbia in search of North America’s answer to the Loch Ness monster: Cadborosaurus, a supposed sea serpent that hundreds have claimed to have seen. In 1931, 20-year-old Ruth Gruber became the world’s youngest Ph.D. She went on to become the first foreign correspondent to enter the Soviet Arctic. She also led a secret mission to bring Holocaust refugees to America, covered the Nuremberg trials, and took historic photos aboard the ship Exodus.
