Will San Francisico ban the sale of household pets?
San Francisco is considering a ban on the sale of all household pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and hamsters. The city’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare says animal shelters are full of pets purchased on a whim from pet stores, then abandoned. “That’s what we’d like to stop,” said chairwoman Sally Stephens. After a furor, she delayed a decision for a month.

A U.S. Marine recruit from Texas is suing the Marine Corps, claiming he suffered heat stroke because he was forced to exercise on a hot summer day. Zachary Snow alleges that Marine instructors demanded he perform “vigorous physical activity” on a 100-degree day, and failed to provide him with “an adequate amount of cool, fresh water.”
