Show of the week: Acid Test: The Global Challenge of Ocean Acidification
Sigourney Weaver narrates this documentary about ocean acidification— “the other carbon problem”—and its threat to thousands of species in the ocean’s food chain.
Since the Industrial Revolution, a quarter of all carbon dioxide produced by burning fossil fuels has gone not into the atmosphere but into the oceans, raising their acidity by 30 percent. Due to what some call “the other carbon problem,” the shells of some sea creatures are dissolving, threatening thousands of species in the ocean’s food chain. Sigourney Weaver narrates this documentary, produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council, which points up potential solutions to ocean acidification. It is part of “Blue August” on Planet Green, a month of programming about water hosted by conservationist/explorers Philippe and Alexandra Cousteau. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 p.m., Planet Green
