Troubling Tillman evidence
The week's news at a glance.
United States
Army Ranger Pat Tillman was killed by three shots to the forehead at close range, according to the Army medical examiners who autopsied him after his death in Afghanistan. Those findings, reported last week by the Associated Press, raise the possibility that the former NFL star was intentionally killed and not, as the Army now says, the victim of accidental “friendly fire.” The Army this week apologized to Tillman’s family for initially concealing the circumstances of his death, which it first said was caused by enemy fire during a battle with the Taliban. It also reprimanded the retired general who headed up the original investigation into the shooting. The Army says the case is now closed, but Tillman’s family says it believes the government is still concealing information about the incident. A House committee this week opened hearings into Tillman’s death.
