MP booted out
The week's news at a glance.
London
The House of Commons has suspended a member of Parliament for hiding his financial dealings with the government of Saddam Hussein. George Galloway started a charity in 1998 to raise money for an Iraqi girl with leukemia. But a parliamentary inquiry found this week that Galloway’s charity took large sums from the Iraqi regime by way of the U.N.’s notoriously mismanaged oil-for-food program. Galloway attacked his accusers on the Commons floor, saying, “Being lectured by the current House of Commons on the question of the funding of political campaigns is like being accused of having bad taste by Donald Trump.” For that and other insults, he was ejected from the chamber. The Commons then suspended him for 18 days.
