Tehran
Further sanctions won’t stop Iran from pursuing nuclear power, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said this week. Iran has already ignored multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions ordering it to stop enriching uranium, a process that can make reactor fuel or bomb fuel. Ahmadinejad said sanctions had not deterred Iran in the past and would only anger it now. “Some say Iran is like a lion sitting calmly in the corner,” he said. “We advise them not to play with a lion’s tail.” In a separate speech, Ahmadinejad issued one of his starkest threats yet against Israel. “If you make a mistake and create another war against the oppressed Lebanese nation, this time the angry ocean of the nations of the region will remove your rotten roots from the region,” he said. “The countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed.”
