Fashion police on the prowl
The week's news at a glance.
Tehran
Iranian police are threatening to close down men’s hairdressers that offer Western-style cuts. The move is a continuation of a fashion crackdown that began last week, when women wearing summer clothes that showed a bit of ankle were issued citations to cover up. Most “modesty fines” have traditionally been imposed on women. Now, though, the official newspaper Etemad said that men who try to look like Hollywood stars would also be fined. Barbershops were ordered to stop putting gel in men’s hair and to refrain from plucking their eyebrows.
