That’s not funny

The week's news at a glance.

Berlin

The first German comedy about Hitler opened last week to horrible reviews. Mein Führer: The Truly Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler was universally panned as stupid and unfunny. The Nazi dictator is portrayed as an impotent bed-wetter with a dog that likes to hump his leg. The plot revolves around a Jewish psychologist who is pulled out of a concentration camp and forced to treat Hitler for depression. Director Dani Levy, a Swiss Jew, said he was prepared for the criticism. “This is not a consensus movie, I know that,” Levy said. “Whenever you touch on this subject in Germany, you are immediately on the edge of good taste.” Still, the film was the top grosser of its opening weekend, beating out the new James Bond movie.
