Brussels
The European Union’s executive body this week proposed a ban on the sale and import of dog and cat fur. It said pet fur, falsely labeled as fox or rabbit, had been found in some products in the Czech Republic and had probably been imported from China. The International Fur Trade Federation disputed the charge. “For many years the European fur trade has not traded in cat and dog fur,” the group said. “We do question why it is necessary to spend time and resources drafting legislation to ban a trade that does not exist.”
