Prince Charles this week revealed his annual tax bill for the first time. The records show that the Prince of Wales paid $6 million on income of about $25 million. He spent about $3.8 million in government money on official business, including travel, and another $8 million on his 105-member official staff, which includes secretaries, a chef, grooms, valets, and a Web site editor. Prince Charles started divulging financial details in 2003, part of a campaign of openness by the royal family, but this latest report was the most extensive yet. “We’re just edging forward with it,” said the prince’s principal private secretary, Sir Michael Peat, “and trying to be more open and transparent.”
