Dont kill the cartoonist
The week's news at a glance.
Islamabad, Pakistan
The Organization of the Islamic Conference has denounced calls for the death of the Danish cartoonist who lampooned the Prophet Mohammed by depicting his turban as a bomb. Several Islamic clerics and radical Web sites have called for the cartoonist’s death. But OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that these death threats were not legally binding fatwas. “This is a not a joke, to go and say, Kill this and that,” Ihsanoglu said. He said the OIC was seeking a promise from the E.U. that Islam would be treated with more respect in the future. Dozens of people have died across the world in violent protests against 12 cartoons initially published in a Danish newspaper.
