Migrants kicked out
The week's news at a glance.
Oujda, Morocco
Morocco this week deported hundreds of Africans who had been trying to get into two Spanish cities on the Moroccan coast. Spain turned back the asylum seekers, mostly from Senegal and Mali, who stormed the walls around the cities last week. Doctors Without Borders said that Morocco then dumped the refugees in the desert, but Morocco denied that, saying it was flying them out to their home countries. Communications Minister Nabil Benabdallah said his country was in an impossible bind. “When we used other means, including force, we created some humanitarian problems,” he said. “It is not possible to fight this problem without causing humanitarian problems.”
