Plane hits man
The week's news at a glance.
DeLand, Fla.
A skydiver was killed in Florida this week when the plane from which he had jumped circled around and sliced off his legs in midair. The victim, aerial photographer Albert “Gus” Wing III, 50, had been videotaping novice skydivers that day. “I was waving my arms,” said college student Casey Steelman. “He was waving back. He had this big smile on his face like he really loves to do his job.” Then the plane swooped in, and its left wing hit the veteran skydiver in the knees, 600 feet from the ground. Wing, whose cinematography credits included Drop Zone starring Wesley Snipes, managed to steer himself to DeLand Airport, but he died later at a hospital.
