A diplomatic marriage
The week's news at a glance.
Mexico City
The U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Tony Garza, is marrying the richest woman in Mexico, an embassy spokesman confirmed this week. Garza’s fiancée, Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala, is a top executive in her family’s company, Grupo Modelo, which brews Corona beer and owns Mexico’s largest media empire. Many Mexicans said the wedding could bode well for their government’s on-again, off-again friendship with the U.S. “It’s good news for our country,” said commentator Guadalupe Loaeza. “Maybe this marriage is going to be the perfect thing for the relationship between the countries.”
