Church scandal continues

Boston
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston is facing 140 new accusations of sexual abuse against priests, The Boston Globe reported this week. Church leaders said they couldn’t afford to settle the cases until insurance companies reimbursed them for the $85 million they paid to settle 541 claims last year. The church has already closed 82 parishes to shore up its finances, and sold the historic archbishop’s estate to Boston College for $107 million. Mitchell Garabedian, a lawyer for many alleged victims, said the scandal could keep brewing for years. “It occurred over decades,” he said, “it will come out over decades.”
