A grisly warning
The week's news at a glance.
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Police in Honduras this week found a disfigured corpse with a note attached to it, warning the country’s president to ease a crackdown on youth gangs. The killers had gouged out the victim’s eyes, cut off his ears and nose, and cut out his heart. It was the 10th such gruesome slaying in recent weeks. In January, a note left on another murder victim warned President Ricardo Maduro that “the next victims” would be police and journalists. Maduro’s government has detained more than a thousand gang members, and last year persuaded the Honduran Congress to impose prison sentences of up to 12 years for merely belonging to a gang.
