Chaplain faces new charge
The week's news at a glance.
Fort Benning, Ga.
A Muslim Army chaplain once suspected of espionage has been released from a military jail, only to be charged with adultery and storing pornography on his government computer. Capt. James Yee was arrested in September as he returned from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he ministered to terrorism suspects. He has been sent back to his post at Fort Benning, but the adultery accusation and an earlier charge that he mishandled classified documents could still get him kicked out of the military. Yee’s lawyer, Eugene Fidell, said the chaplain was being persecuted. “They have destroyed this man’s reputation for what turns out to be no good reason,” he said.
