Columbine tape released
The week's news at a glance.
Denver
A videotape recorded shortly before the 1999 Columbine High School massacre shows the teenage gunmen taking target practice and laughing about the damage their weapons could do. “Imagine that in someone’s [expletive] brains,” Eric Harris says after blasting a hole in a bowling pin. Six weeks after making the video with three friends, Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into the school and murdered 12 classmates and a teacher, then committed suicide. Investigators released the tape last week under pressure to make police files public. The father of a slain student said he hoped the tape would help other school officials spot “red flags and prevent future tragedies. “What they said they were going to do, they did,” Brian Rohrbough said.
