Bin Laden threatens
The week's news at a glance.
Doha, Qatar
“Vulgar” Americans should expect suicide terrorism inside the U.S., Osama bin Laden said on an audiotape aired this week on the Arab satellite station Al-Jazeera. The al Qaida leader said Americans had been betrayed both by President Bush, who started a war for oil in Iraq, and by the Jews, “who lead you using the lie of democracy to support the Israelis.” He also pledged to kill Americans in Baghdad and all Arab lands, saying, “May our mothers become childless if we leave any of you alive on our soil.” CIA analysts confirmed that the voice was bin Laden’s, and said the tape must have been made in the past few months, as it contained mention of the Palestinian administration of Mahmoud Abbas, who was in office from April to September.
