The week's news at a glance.
Pristina, Kosovo
The U.S. declined Kosovo’s offer to send several hundred police to Iraq or Afghanistan, The New York Times reported this week. Pro-U.S. feelings are very strong in Kosovo because of the U.S.-led military intervention that stopped the Serbian crackdown there in 1999. But State Department officials said Kosovo, which is still technically part of Serbia but overseen by the U.N., should concentrate on nurturing its own fledgling democracy.
