Crash wipes out family
The week's news at a glance.
Naro Moru, Kenya
Three generations of a prominent Atlanta family on a trip to an African park were killed this week when their charter plane veered into a mountain. George Brumley, his wife Jean, three of their children and their spouses, and four grandchildren were killed, along with the two South African pilots. Brumley was a pioneering pediatrician whose research led to the drugs used today to save premature babies. A philanthropist, he donated millions of dollars to hospitals and shelters in Atlanta. Kenyan authorities said the crash was caused by bad weather.
