Terror ship?
The week's news at a glance.
Platiyali, Greece
A mystery ship stopped off the coast of Greece this week was found to be carrying 700 tons of explosives. The Baltic Sky set off from Tunisia several weeks ago and wandered erratically through the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. When the ship entered Greek waters, Greek special forces raided it and found vast amounts of TNT and detonators. The ship’s crew—five Ukrainians and two Azerbaijanis—is under arrest and being questioned for possible links to terrorism. The listed destination for the explosives, Sudan, raised a red flag because that country has been a haven for Islamic militant groups. Osama bin Laden was based there for several years before he went to Afghanistan in the mid-1990s.
