U.S. officials this week began what promises to be a long series of separate meetings with Palestinians and Israelis to implement the “road map” for Middle East peace. The difficult, intermediate steps include the dismantling of Palestinian terrorist groups and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestinian cities. President Bush is determined “to move aggressively and energetically toward the two-state vision,” said U.S. envoy William Burns.
