New York
A Manhattan bouncer was stabbed to death this week after he tried to enforce New York City’s new ban on smoking in bars and restaurants. The bouncer, Dana Blake, spotted a man puffing on a cigarette inside the Guernica nightclub. The patron, Johnathan Chan, refused to put out his cigarette, so Blake grabbed him by the neck and hauled him toward the door. Chan’s brother, Ching, and two other people jumped into the scuffle, and somebody stabbed Blake in the stomach. Even at 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, Blake didn’t stand much of a chance against four people, the bar’s manager said, but “who calls for backup when you’re asking guys to put out a cigarette?”
