American bulldozed to death
The week's news at a glance.
Gaza
An Israeli military bulldozer ran over and killed an American who was protesting the demolition of Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip. Rachel Corrie, 23, a college student from Olympia, Wash., was kneeling in front of the bulldozer and didn’t try to get out of its path until the blades had already caught her. “She thought they’d stop, but they kept going,” said fellow protester Tom Dale, who was standing nearby. “When we arrived she was still alive but had blood all over her face.” The Israeli military said Corrie’s death was “regrettable,” adding that the armored bulldozer had tiny windows and the driver could not see her. Spokesman Capt. Jacob Dallal said, “We’re dealing with a group of protesters acting very irresponsibly, putting everyone in danger.”
