Americans kept sex slaves
The week's news at a glance.
Sarajevo
American military contractors in Bosnia routinely bought young girls as concubines, a whistle-blower has charged. Ben Johnston, a helicopter mechanic, said he was fired by the Virginia company DynCorp after he complained that his colleagues were bragging about the 12-year-olds who shared their beds. “I had to do something,” Johnston told Salon.com. “There were kids involved.” He is suing the company for wrongful termination. Human rights groups report that brothels across Bosnia are filled with young girls illegally trafficked from Ukraine, Russia, and other Eastern European countries.
