Al Gores return

Al Gore this week conceded that he got bogged down listening to consultants during his losing bid for the White House, but he vowed not to make the same mistake if he runs again. “To hell with the polls,” Gore told a gathering of Democratic donors and fund-raisers. “If I had it to do over again, I’d just let it rip.” The former vice president proceeded to blast Republicans, saying they have used the war on terrorism “as a political wedge to divide America.” Gore also accused the Bush administration of “fighting for the powerful” and ignoring the less fortunate. The Republican National Committee reacted to Gore’s meeting, widely viewed as a test of his support among donors, by releasing poll results showing President Bush well ahead of Gore and other potential Democratic candidates.
