Backed by a stellar cast, Scorcese remakes Hong Kong action in Boston.
When it comes to Martin Scorsese movies, the bloodier the better, said Michael Sragow in the Baltimore Sun. After the polished style of The Aviator, it's nice to see the legendary director get back to the gritty stuff. Here, Scorsese has taken a Hong Kong action film about warring mobsters and cops and transported it to the streets of Boston. Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jack Nicholson make up the 'œhard-boiled ensemble' that 'œturns brass-knuckle action into melodramatic gold.'
