1. BORIS RE-ELECTED IN LONDON
Boris Johnson has been re-elected as London Mayor after beating Labour rival Ken Livingstone by just 3% in the election. The Green candidate Jenny Jones beat Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick into fourth place. Johnson promised to deliver a "good deal for Londoners from the government that will help us deliver prosperity for everybody in this city".
2. 9/11 SUSPECTS DUE IN MILITARY COURT
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other men accused of masterminding the September 11 attacks are to be charged by a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay. Relatives of those who died in the attacks will attend the hearing. President Obama failed in his bid to have the men face a civilian trial in New York.
3. MILIBAND HAILS LABOUR GAINS
Ed Miliband says the Labour Party is “winning back people’s trust” and "regaining ground" after his party gained 32 councils and almost 823 seats at the expense of both the coalition partners. The Liberal Democrats lost nearly half their council seats. In Edinburgh a Lib Dem was beaten by an independent candidate who dressed as a penguin.

4. BEASTIE BOY YAUCH DIES
Founder member of the Beastie Boys Adam Yauch has died at 47. Yauch, known as MCA in the iconic band, was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer in 2009. Eminem said Beastie Boys "are trailblazers ... and Adam will be sorely missed." Rapper Q-Tip said Yauch "showed us the ropes". Justin Timberlake said he is "crushed" by the news.
5. CAMERON GETS LEVESON BOOST
David Cameron and ministers including Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt have been awarded core participant status by the Leveson inquiry, meaning they will be allowed to see witness statements in advance. They now also have the right to raise objections to potentially sensitive documents being made public.
6. CONRAD BLACK RELEASED FROM JAIL
Former media tycoon Conrad Black is at home in Toronto having been released from prison in Miami after serving just over three years for defrauding investors. Black was convicted of defrauding Hollinger International shareholders of $6.1m (£3.8m) in 2007. His newspaper empire once included The Daily Telegraph and the Chicago Sun-Times.
7. 'OFFENSIVE' FALKLANDS AD SPARKS FURY
An advert featuring an Argentine athlete training for London 2012 in the Falklands Islands has been criticised by the UK owner of the agency that produced it. Young & Rubicam described the advert as "offensive" and "unacceptable". Falklands war hero Simon Weston said it is "cheap and tawdry" while Foreign Secretary William Hague called it "a sad stunt".

8. OLYMPIC STADIUM TO OFFICIALLY OPEN
The Olympic Stadium in east London will be formally opened on Saturday with more than 40,000 members of the public expected to attend the "2,012 hours to go" ceremony. UK Olympians including Sir Steve Redgrave and celebrities including Vernon Kay, Gabby Logan and The Military Wives will appear.
9. VET SLAMS RITUAL SLAUGHTER RISE
A top British vet has criticised the "unacceptable" rise in the number of animals killed in halal and kosher slaughter without prior stunning. Speaking of the rise, Professor Bill Reilly, the former president of the British Veterinary Association, said "if we cannot eliminate non-stunning [slaughter], we need to keep it to the minimum".
10. 'WIN IT FOR DI MATTEO' URGES TERRY
Chelsea will play Liverpool in the FA Cup Final at Wembley this afternoon. Blues skipper John Terry has called on this team, appearing in the club's fourth FA Cup final in six years, to win the cup for interim manager Roberto di Matteo. Striker Luis Suarez and captain Steven Gerrard are set to return to the Liverpool line-up.
