1. GIRL GUIDES WANT P3 GIRL BAN

Britain's Girl Guides have offered their support to efforts to persuade The Sun to stop featuring topless Page Three girls. The Girl Guide movement backed campaigner Lucy-Anne Holmes's petition "to take the bare boobs out of The Sun" after a ballot of more than 2,000 members showed 88 per cent supported Holmes's cause.

2. QUEEN WILL ATTEND THATCHER FUNERAL

The funeral of Lady Thatcher will take place next Wednesday, Downing Street announced today. Her coffin will be taken from Westminster by hearse to the Strand, where it will be transferred to a gun carriage for the final approach to St Paul's Cathedral. The route will be lined by the armed forces. The Queen and Prince Philip will attend.

3. CHILD HEART SURGERY RESUMES AT LEEDS

Children's heart surgery at Leeds General Infirmary will resume today following a controversial suspension of operations imposed by the medical director of NHS England, Sir Bruce Keogh, amid concerns over mortality rates. Lower-risk operations will start a "phased resumption" subject to "independent validation of the clinical data".

4. PARIS BROWN QUITS OVER TWITTER ROW

Paris Brown, Britain's first youth crime commissioner, has stood down less than a week after being appointed. It follows widespread criticism of "offensive" tweets by the 17-year-old. She apologised for referring to "pikeys", "fags", drugs and violence in messages on Twitter, but her comments are now being investigated by Kent police – the force she was due to start work with this summer.

5. MANCHESTER DERBY: CITY BEAT UNITED 2-1

Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 last night to break United's 18-match winning streak, but City manager Roberto Mancini acknowledged that the victory had come too late to stop United retaking the Premier League title. With seven league games remaining, United are 12 points ahead and look certain to take the title for the 20th time.

6. FLIGHTS 'BUMPIER' DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Flying over the Atlantic will become a much bumpier ride over the next 40 years, with twice as much turbulence on the average flight as a result of climate change, according to a report in Nature Climate Change. Dr Paul Williams of Reading University said it could make flying more expensive as airlines reroute to avoid turbulence and burn more fuel.

7. HBOS CHIEF: I'LL FORFEIT KNIGHTHOOD

Former HBOS chief executive Sir James Crosby has volunteered to forfeit his knighthood and forgo 30% of his pension. His offer comes after David Cameron said he would not push for Crosby to be stripped of his honour over his disastrous management of the bank. Last year, the PM pushed for Fred Goodwin to lose his knighthood over the collapse of RBS.

8. 'EVACUATE': N KOREA WARNS FOREIGNERS

North Korea has urged foreigners living in South Korea to evacuate because it says the region is heading for a "thermo-nuclear war". Despite the North's continuing warlike rhetoric the Foreign Office has not changed its travel advice for the Korean peninsular which does not warn Britons against visiting either South or North Korea.

9. FEMEN: PUTIN IS 'REALLY STUPID'

Feminist activists Femen have called Russian president Vladimir Putin "really studid" after he said he "liked" their topless protest at a trade fair in Germany. Putin was targeted by the Ukranian activists who broke through security and rushed toward him with anti-Putin messages daubed on their bodies. The women were tackled by security.

10. HOT TICKET: TIGER BACK IN THE GAME

The latest instalment in the 'Tiger Woods Tour' series of golf simulation video games has been released in the UK. In 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14' gamers can play as Woods on the PGA circuit, or as golfing greats such as Seve Ballesteros in the new Legends mode. "Genre leading," says Metro.
