1. SURVIVORS SOUGHT AFTER DHAKA COLLAPSE
A desperate search for survivors is continuing at the site of an eight-story clothing factory in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, which has collapsed killing at least 220 people. About 40 people were found alive in a room in the ruined building today, but hundreds are still missing. Primark is among the western firms who were supplied by the factory.

2. BRITISH ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS JAILED
Three British Islamic extremists including a white Muslim convert and a former police community support officer have been jailed for terrorism. Richard Dart, Jahangir Alom and Imran Mahmood, were sentenced at the Old Bailey today to jail terms ranging from 4 to 9 years for engaging in conduct in preparation of acts of terrorism.

3. CIA TRACKED BOSTON BOMB SUSPECT
The late Boston marathon bomb suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was added to a terrorism database 18 months ago at the request of the CIA, US officials have said. It was earlier revealed Tsarnaev was investigated by the FBI, who found no evidence he posed a threat. The bombs were triggered by remote control.

6. BRITAIN AVOIDS TRIPLE-DIP
Britain has avoided slipping into an unprecedented triple-dip recession, according to official statistics released this morning. Preliminary figures by the Office for National Statistics show Britain's economy grew by 0.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2013.

7. NEWSPAPERS REJECT REGULATOR PLAN
The newspaper industry has rejected cross-party plans to regulate the press and published alternative proposals for self-regulation backed by a Royal Charter. The current plans, made in the wake of the Leveson report, were “unworkable”, the Newspaper Society said. The alternative plan is backed by every national newspaper except the Guardian and the Independent.
8. ‘MORALLY DESTROYED’ SUAREZ MAY QUIT KOP
There’s speculation that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez may quit the team after the FA yesterday suspended him for ten matches after he bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on the arm on Sunday. The Uruguayan’s family said he was “morally destroyed” by the ban and Liverpool said they were “shocked and disappointed”.

9. TURNER PRIZE NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
The nominations for the 2013 Turner Prize have been announced. The selected artists are painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, performance artist Tino Sehgal, installation artist Laure Prouvost and David Shrigley, whose Hayward Gallery show last year featured his "piquant, cartoonish drawings and animations" as well as his sculptures.

Nicholas Hytner’s new production of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ has opened at the National Theatre, London. Adrian Lester stars as Othello, a military hero driven to murderous jealousy by his scheming friend Iago (played by Rory Kinnear).“Marvellous”, says The Times. Until 17 August.
