1. WOOLWICH ATTACK: MEN KNOWN TO MI5
The two men believed to have hacked a soldier to death in Woolwich on Tuesday were known to security forces, Whitehall sources say. One of the pair, who are in hospital after being shot by police, has been named as Michael Adebolajo, a Muslim convert from Romford. There were 1,200 extra police on duty in London today, but David Cameron insisted Britain would "never give in to terrorism".

2. FTSE 100 IN DRAMATIC TURNAROUND
The FTSE 100 shares index fell sharply this morning after closing at a 13-year high yesterday. The drop came amid fears over weak Chinese economic data and concerns that the US Federal Reserve could halt its stimulus programme. Analysts are divided over whether the FTSE and other indices can continue being so buoyant.

3. RESTAURANT BURNED IN SWEDISH RIOTS
Sweden has been hit by an unprecedented wave of rioting involving hundreds of young people. In Stockholm a restaurant was burned down and up to 40 cars set ablaze on a fourth consecutive night of violence. Three police were injured in clashes. The riots began in the north of the city on Sunday but have spread to suburbs in the south. There has also been trouble in Malmo.
4. EDWARD VIII'S PHONE BUGGED BY GOV'T
King Edward VIII had his telephone calls to his mistress Wallis Simpson bugged on the orders of the Home Office at the height of the 1936 abdication crisis, files released by the National Archives show. He was living at Fort Belvedere in Windsor Great Park and Mrs Simpson was staying with friends in the south of France.

5. GERMANY IS WORLD'S MOST POPULAR NATION
Germany has overtaken Japan as the most positively viewed nation in the world according to an annual poll of 26,000 people conducted for the BBC World Service. Britain climbed to third place, thanks to its successful hosting of the Olympics. Positive views of China and India fell. Iran was again the most negatively viewed country.
6. JEREMY HUNT UNDER FIRE FROM GPS
The leader of Britain's GPs has accused Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt of "political posturing" and "spouting rubbish" by suggesting that doctors are to blame for the crisis in A&E. Dr Laurence Buckman, chairman of the BMA's GP committee, denied that a change to out-of-hours care had led to increased pressure on hospitals and said GPs were fed up with being blamed.
7. RYAN GOSLING FILM BOOED AT CANNES
A Cannes film festival audience booed at the extreme violence in the latest film from director Nicolas Winding Refn, who won the best director prize at the 2011 festival for Drive. His new film, Only God Forgives, again stars Ryan Gosling, this time teaming up with an "icy" Kristin Scott Thomas in an underworld tale from Bangkok.

8. NISSAN RECALLS CUBE AND MICRA MODELS
Nissan is recalling 840,000 Micra and Cube models worldwide, nearly 134,000 of which are in Britain, because of a possible fault with the steering wheel. Nissan says a bolt may not have been properly tightened and could cause the steering wheel to fail to function. No injuries or deaths have been reported, the company says.

9. SPONSOR CRITICISES GARCIA OVER WOODS JIBE
Golfer Sergio Garcia, accused of aiming a racial taunt at rival Tiger Woods, has come under fire from his main sponsor, TaylorMade-adidas, which has said it is considering its backing of the Spaniard. Garcia has already apologised unreservedly for a remark about serving Woods fried chicken. Woods described the comment as "hurtful".

10. HOT TICKET: LANA DEL REY 'MAGNIFICENT'
American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey continues her UK tour this week. Del Rey performs noir pop tunes including viral YouTube hit 'Video Games' and her new song for the 'Great Gatsby' soundtrack, 'Young and Beautiful'. "Magnificent," says The Guardian.
