1. EGYPT: NEW PRESIDENT SWORN IN

Adly Mansour, the judge who was today sworn-in as Egypt's interim President, has said he will try to represent all sections of Egyptian society. His predecessor, Mohammed Morsi, who was ousted from power by the Egyptian army yesterday is being detained at the Defence Ministry. Arrest warrants have been issued for 300 Muslim Brotherhood officials.

2. UK TEMPERATURES SET TO HIT 30C NEXT WEEK

The Met Office is predicting not only a fabulously sunny weekend, with temperatures across Britain in the high 20s, but a fortnight of sunshine with the thermometer set to hit 30C. The reason for the heatwave is an area of high pressure moving up from the southwest. If the forecast proves correct, it could be the hottest July since 2006.

3. KING ABDICATES AMID PATERNITY SCANDAL

King Albert II of Belgium has announced his abdication after 20 years on the throne. In a TV address, the 79-year-old blamed his failing health. However, most Belgian commentators say the real reason is the public challenge issued by a British-educated artist, Delphine Boël, that he recognise her as his daughter.

4. MANDELA'S GRANDSON BLASTS FAMILY

The family feud that has overshadowed the final days of Nelson Mandela deepened today after the statesman's grandson, Mandla attacked his 'destructive' family and said they were trying to steal his grandfather's money. Mandla has been embroiled in a dispute over the exhumation of the remains of three of Mandela's children.

5. WIMBLEDON: BARTOLI INTO 2ND FINAL

Marion Bartoli has beaten Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to reach her second Wimbledon final. Meanwhile, Andy Murray will meet Jerzy Janowicz, the Pole with the biggest serve at Wimbledon, in the semi-finals on Friday after clawing his way back from two sets down to beat Spain's Fernando Verdasco yesterday.

6. HUNDREDS TO MOURN LEE RIGBY

Hundreds of mourners are expected to assemble at a service for murdered soldier Lee Rigby at the parish church in Bury, Manchester. The funeral on 12 July will be private, but broadcast via a PA system to those who gather outside. Rigby was killed as he returned to Woolwich barracks from the Tower of London on 22 May.

7. TAKING ON HUMPHRYS: IT'S NOT A FAIR FIGHT

The same report that criticised the BBC's "deep liberal bias" over the issue of immigration also claims that appearing opposite John Humphrys on the Today programme is like being in a one-sided duel with a prizefighter. The result can be "excruciatingly entertaining to witness" but unfair to the interviewee who gets "no second chances".

8. NOLAN SISTER BERNIE DIES AGED 52

Singer Bernie Nolan has died following a long battle with breast cancer. The former lead vocalist of The Nolans received the all-clear in 2012 but the disease returned and spread to her brain, bones, lungs and liver months later. A family spokeswoman said she "passed away peacefully with all of her family around her".

9. TOM WATSON QUITS OVER FALKIRK ROW

Labour's Tom Watson has resigned from his shadow cabinet role as the party's general election co-ordinator. The West Bromwich East MP has been embroiled in a row about candidate selection in Falkirk, which has allowed David Cameron to attack Labour leader Ed Miliband over his relationship with the union, Unite.

10. HOT TICKET: MICHAEL BUBLE AT O2 ARENA

Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Bublé's 'To Be Loved' tour has opened in London at the O2 Arena. The multi-million album selling crooner sings Sinatra-style jazz standards along with his original hits such as 'Haven't Met you Yet' and 'Home'. "Feel-good," says the Evening Standard.
