1. BBC TROUNCES ITV AS 20M WATCH FINAL
More than 20 million people tuned in to watch the World Cup final in Britain last night as Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in Rio de Janeiro. The BBC trounced ITV in the ratings, pulling in 16.7 million viewers compared to just 3.8 million for ITV. The win sparked celebrations in Germany and ugly riots in Buenos Aires.

2. THOUSANDS FLEE GAZA AIR STRIKES
Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing from Northern Gaza as Israel continues air strikes it began seven days ago in the wake of the murder of three Israeli teenagers. Israel says the attacks are intended to stop rockets being fired from Gaza. At least 172 Palestinians have been killed, officials in Gaza say.

3. COSTA CONCORDIA RE-FLOATED
Work has begun to refloat the cruise ship Costa Concordia, which capsized off the coast of Italy in 2012 killing 32. It was righted in September 2013 in a 19-hour salvage operation and has been sitting on an underwater platform since then. It has now been raised from the platform and will be towed away and scrapped.

4. UK TO BE ‘HOTTER THAN IBIZA’ THIS WEEK
Forecasters expect temperatures to rise throughout this week and peak on Friday, when parts of the country are expected to be hotter than Ibiza or Gran Canaria. Today and Tuesday will be 24C, with 28C on Wednesday and 30C on Friday. The southeast of England will be hottest, with other areas also warm.
5. MAN UNITED IN £750M ADIDAS KIT DEAL
Manchester United have signed a record £75m-a-year deal with sportswear manufacturer Adidas that will see the German company provide the club's kit from 2015. United's current contract with Nike is worth £23.5m a year and comes to an end at the end of next season. The ten-year Adidas deal, worth £750m, is the biggest club kit deal ever.
6. CHURCH VOTES FOR WOMEN BISHOPS
The Church of England has voted to allow women bishops. The move was approved at a meeting of the General Synod, the church's governing body. Two years ago plans were rejected by lay members but this time the idea was approved by all three houses. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said he was "delighted".

7. AMNESIAC IDENTIFIED AS LITHUANIAN
A man found in a Peterborough park two months ago suffering from a severe case of amnesia has been identified as 22-year-old Lithuanian Alvydas Kanaporis, after a campaign for information about him. The man, known to his carers as Robert, was identified by members of his family after the appeal made the news in his homeland.
8. BUTLER-SLOSS QUITS ABUSE INQUIRY
Baroness Butler-Sloss has quit as head of an inquiry into allegations of historical child abuse against senior establishment figures in the 1980s. There were concerns that the 80-year-old had links to those she was investigating. Her brother, Sir Michael Havers, was attorney general at the time some of the alleged abuse took place.

9. CHERYL COLE WEDS AFTER THREE MONTHS
Singer and talent show judge Cheryl Cole, 31, has revealed she has married her French restaurateur boyfriend, 33-year-old Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, after a three-month romance. They married on 7 July on the island of Mustique with just four guests including Cole’s mother.
10. HOT TICKET: BARBICAN DIGITAL REVOLUTION
A new exhibition of digital creations, Digital Revolution, has opened at the Barbican, London. The immersive show looks at the transformation of our culture through digital technology, including video games, art works, music, fashion, interactive environments and sculpture. "Vibrant," says Wired. Until 14 September.
