1. Satellite images show Palmyra destruction
Photographs taken by a satellite have confirmed that Islamic State (IS) has destroyed the most important structure in the Syrian archaeological treasury of Palmyra, says the UN. The temple of Bel was the second temple destroyed by IS at the site. The UN described the earlier destruction of the temple of Bel Shaamin as a war crime.

3. Two British journalists arrested in Turkey
Two British reporters for Vice News have been arrested in Turkey, along with their translator, and charged with terror offences which they deny. Vice said the charges faced by Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury are “baseless and alarmingly false”. The men were filming clashes between Kurdish militants and the Turkish police.

4. Migrants protest outside Budapest train station
Migrants have been protesting outside the main railway station in the Hungarian capital Budapest after police sealed off the terminal to stop them travelling through the EU. Protesters waved tickets and chanted "Germany". Earlier hundreds of migrants arrived in the Austrian capital Vienna after being held for several hours at the border with Hungary. Many immediately boarded trains to Germany.
5. Joy, eldest of Beverley Sisters, dies aged 91
Joy Beverley, the eldest of the vocal harmony group the Beverley Sisters, has died at the age of 91. She and her two sisters found fame after WWII with songs including Little Drummer Boy. They had their own TV series in the 1950s and all three were awarded MBEs in 2006. Joy was married to England footballer Billy Wright until his death from cancer in 1994.
6. Hundreds of arrests at Notting Hill Carnival
London’s Notting Hill Carnival, the second-biggest event of its kind in the world, has been marred by over 300 arrests. During the event, one police officer was stabbed while another was bitten in separate incidents. There were 314 arrests by Monday for offences including assault, theft, criminal damage, carrying weapons and drug possession.
7. Netflix drops thousands of titles for own content
Web video streaming site Netflix is to drop thousands of films and focus its efforts on “exclusive content”. The site has failed to reach a renewed deal with distributor Epix, whose catalogue of films includes the Hunger Games and Transformers series. Rival service Hulu is to take on the Epix films. Netflix has 60 million subscribers worldwide.

8. Second Bangkok bomb suspect arrested in Thailand
A second man has been arrested in connection with a bombing that killed 20 people at a Bangkok shrine in August. The foreign suspect was arrested in Sa Kaeo province near the border with Cambodia. Another foreigner was arrested in Bangkok on Saturday over the blast. The Thai authorities have not yet released the suspects names or nationality.
9. Briefing: affair matchmaker Ashley Madison 'almost exclusively male'
Almost all the female profiles on the illicit affairs dating site Ashley Madison were never used, according to a comprehensive data analysis. The tech news site Gizmodo ran numerous tests on stolen data leaked by hackers earlier this month and found that thousands of the profiles registered to people identifying as female appeared to be fake, and millions were never used at all. Its reporter says the evidence overwhelmingly suggests Ashley Madison "is a site where tens of millions of men write mail, chat, and spend money for women who aren't there."

10. Ukip will run separate referendum No campaign
Ukip is to launch its own campaign against Britain's membership of the European Union ahead of a referendum to take place before the end of 2017. Leader Nigel Farage says his party will not join either of the two existing No campaigns, but will work alongside them. The official No campaign for the vote will enjoy higher spending limits, television broadcasts and a grant.
