1. Third runway at Heathrow approved
The government has approved plans for a controversial third runway at Heathrow to expand UK airport capacity. Previous plans to expand Heathrow were scrapped in 2010 but have now been given the go-ahead. Local MP Zac Goldsmith has resigned in protest at the decision and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the plans were "undeliverable".
'Third Heathrow runway is not enough,' say business leaders
2. Pakistan: Dozens killed at police college
At least 58 cadets and guards have been killed at a police training college in Pakistan, and more than 100 injured. Three militants wearing suicide vests entered the college in Quetta yesterday – all are now dead. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack but Islamists and separatists have carried out similar assaults in the past.

3. Prince's Paisley Park to become a museum
Prince's Paisley Park complex in Minnesota, where he lived and recorded music, is to become a permanent museum. The singer died of an accidental drugs overdose in April this year and his home was opened to the public for three days earlier this month. The museum's website said tours would begin this week and bookings are being taken until December.
4. Dead or Alive singer Peter Burns dies
Singer Pete Burns, the former frontman of 80s group Dead or Alive, has died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 57. Best known for his hit You Spin Me Round (Like A Record), Burns also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2006. Boy George reacted to the news, saying he felt "tearful" and Burns was "one of our great true eccentrics".

5. Belgium misses EU-Canada deadline
Belgium has failed to persuade its regional Wallonia assembly to back the EU-Canada Ceta trade deal before a deadline imposed by the EU, which had said a summit planned for Thursday would be cancelled if Belgium was not ready by Monday night. However, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is still expected to fly to Brussels this week.

6. France to demolish 'Jungle' migrant camp
After 2,300 migrants left the Calais camp known as The Jungle yesterday, the French authorities are to begin demolishing the makeshift buildings there today. The migrants were bussed to migrant centres across France in a peaceful clearance process. Hundreds more are queueing to leave today but there are fears others will refuse to go.

7. GPs told: Don't hold back on obesity
Public Health England has advised GPs not to hold back from talking to obese patients about their weight after a study found that just 30 seconds of advice from a doctor, perhaps during a consultation about something unrelated, could have a profound effect on patients' weight. Most patients said the chat was "appropriate".

8. Four dead at Australian theme park
Four people have died in an accident on a ride at a theme park on Australia's Gold Coast. The 34-year-old Thunder River Rapids ride is a staple of one of Australia's most popular family holiday destinations. A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said two people had been ejected from the ride and another two "caught inside".

9. Tennis player cuts off ponytail in match
Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova surprised onlookers by cutting off her own ponytail during a match last night in Singapore. She explained later her plait had been flicking her in the eye, so she requested a break and a pair of scissors and hacked off her hair without even looking. She beat Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5, 1-6, 7-5.
10. Briefing: Why was dead conspiracy theorist's computer wiped?
The mother of the late British conspiracy theorist Max Spiers has revealed that his computer was wiped before it was returned to her, prompting further questions about his death. The 39-year-old UFO expert died in Warsaw, Poland, in June, but friends and other conspiracy theorists have rejected the official ruling that he died of "natural causes".
