Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will play The Open at Carnoustie in July.
Woods won his first Open title in 2000 at St Andrews and then enjoyed back-to-back victories at St Andrews and Royal Liverpool in 2005 and 2006.

After a number of years battling injury and recovering from back surgery, Woods has returned to golf this season and impressed with a joint second place at the Valspar Championship, a joint fifth at the Arnold Palmer International and when finishing tied for 32nd at the Masters.
Woods, whose 14 major championships put him second on the all-time list behind Jack Nicklaus’s 18, said last year that he would “love to play Carnoustie again”. Quoted by the Independent, he said: “I played there in the Scottish Open in 1995 and in 1999 in the Open.
“Carnoustie can be a brutal golf course and it was brutal that year [1999]. It’s just so tough, but it’s all there in front of you. There are no tricks, there’s nothing hidden. It’s just come and get me.
“I won two of my Open championships in Scotland, and the other one in England so let’s try and add another one in there.”
The 147th Open, the third major of the season, takes place from 15 to 22 July and it will be the first time since 2007 that Carnoustie has hosted the tournament.
