No sooner had Prince Harry announced his engagement to his American girlfriend Meghan Markle than speculation began on both sides of the Atlantic about his wife-to-be’s future title.
The Daily Mail says Markle is likely to be known as the Duchess of Sussex - a title that has not been filled since 1843. The Daily Express says Markle could either become the Duchess of Sussex, “or alternatively she could reject the title and become ‘Princess Meghan’”.

Town and Country says she that while she will be a princess, she won’t take the title Princess Meghan: “According to the customs of British peerage, a woman takes the title of her husband, meaning Meghan would become HRH Princess Henry of Wales, but she's not a British ‘blood’ princess, so calling her Princess Meghan would be incorrect”.
Prince Harry, 33, and his 36-year-old girlfriend will wed in the spring at Windsor Castle. The Sun says Prince Harry won't lose his place in line for the throne just because he’s marrying a divorcee.
The couple will live at Kensington Palace but further details about the wedding day have not been released.
Markle was raised in Los Angeles but for the past six years has been living in Toronto, where the US legal drama Suits, in which she co-stars, is filmed. She is not expected to return for the upcoming eighth season of the show.
