Every day 800 women die during childbirth or pregnancy-related complications. Maternity Worldwide works in countries where the risk is highest, and with women who are in greatest need. We save lives by: training local midwives and doctors to provide skilled care for mothers to give birth safely; providing community education so people know how to identify risks and when to seek professional assistance; supporting women to set up small businesses so they can pay for travel to a health centre to give birth; improving access to healthcare through the use of motorbike ambulances and clinics in rural areas.
It costs just £15 to sponsor a safe birth, £1 to provide vital antibiotics to prevent infection after giving birth, and £80 to pay for a month of midwifery training.
