New England Brewing Co. apologized over the weekend after receiving complaints that one of its beers, named after Mahatma Gandhi, was offensive.
"Our intent is not to offend anyone but rather pay homage and celebrate a man who we respect greatly," the brewery said in a statement posted to Facebook.
The beer in question, an India pale ale called Gandhi-Bot, features a label depicting, as the name suggests, a robotic likeness of the revered Indian independence icon. It has a near-perfect rating from Beer Advocate.
