This helmet smartly warns both bikers and drivers of potential collisions

Not all drivers, just those in Volvo cars. That's because the high-tech helmet is being created by the Swedish car company, in collaboration with sports protective gear company POC and Ericsson, and it's a fantastic step forward in road-sharing safety.
The system, which is still in development, establishes a connection between smartphone-carrying cyclists and nearby Volvo cars. Using positioning data, the helmet can identify potential collisions ahead of time and warn both the driver, with a flashing light, and the rider, with a helmet-mounted alert light.
What's really innovative is that the smartphone communication could extend outside the car doors to pedestrians and other cyclists. Watch the short video for more. --Lauren Hansen
